Dr Don Thiwanka Wijeratne is an Assistant Professor in Internal Medicine at Queen’s University. He commenced his Academic Career as faculty and a Clinician Researcher in Fall of 2015, having completed his Sub-specialty and Fellowship training in General Internal Medicine and Internal Medicine at Queen’s University. Prior to residency Dr Wijeratne completed a Masters in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Toronto with training in Health Services Research at the Women’s College Research Institute in Toronto. He completed his Medical degree at the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka prior to migrating to Canada in 2008.
Dr Wijeratne's passion to medical education stems from completing a certification in medical education by the Staff and Educational Development Association (SEDA) in the United Kingdom. His focus is to make ward-based teaching more structured; through objectives, lesson plans and tutorials. Dr Wijeratne is married to a Psychiatrist, Dr Nishardi Wijeratne who also commenced an academic career at Queen’s. They have made Kingston, Ontario their home with their two lovely kids Neshaya and Maneth.
