The Cara and Murray Sinclair Cancer Research Institute (SCRI) is pleased to launch the inaugural round of applications for the Cancer Research Innovation Fund (CRIF).
This internal funding opportunity offers up to $50,000 per project to support innovative and collaborative cancer research projects aligning with strategic priorities of the Institute.
Strategic Priorities
For the 2025 competition, proposals are invited in the following research focus areas:
- Glioblastoma
- Advanced Imaging of the Tumour Immune Microenvironment
- Collaborative Cancer Research (addressing other unmet needs in cancer diagnosis, treatment, care, or survivorship)
Who Can Apply
- Main applicant must be a full-time faculty affiliated with SCRI (full or associate member at time of competition deadline)
- Projects must have at least 1 additional co-applicant
- Teams must be multidisciplinary and collaborative
CRIF Projects Will:
- Address an unmet need in cancer care or research
- Foster multidisciplinary collaboration within and beyond SCRI
- Integrate Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Indigeneity, and Accessibility (EDIIA)
- Align with SCRI’s strategic focus areas
- Capable of leveraging external grant funding within 2 years
Key Dates
- Call Opens: May 1, 2025
- Application Deadline: June 30, 2025 (5 pm)
- Funding Term: 12 months (Ethics and approvals must be in place prior to fund release)
Proposal Requirements
Applicants must submit a detailed proposal including:
- Objectives and research methodology
- Budget (up to $50,000 for research expenses)
- Description of the team and collaborative structure
- EDIIA strategy
Evaluation Criteria
Proposals will be evaluated on:
- Scientific merit
- Innovation and feasibility
- Multidisciplinary collaboration
- Alignment with strategic priorities
- Potential to attract future external funding
- Integration of EDIIA and sex/gender considerations
